JEAN-BAPTISTE SALLES

(France)

Conservatory of Pau / Orchestra of Pau Pays de Béarn

Jean-Baptiste began the double bass with his father, Bernard Salles, at the CRD de Pau, where he won first prize. He continued his training with Jean-Michel Hequet, and perfected himself with great masters of the double bass such as Thomas Martin, Giuseppe Ettorre, Thierry Barbé or Antonio Garcia Araque.

Holder of all diplomas and teaching competitions, he began teaching in 2003. In 2018 he was appointed professor at the Conservatoire de Pau.

He is also the holder of the Orchester de Pau Pays de Béarn.

Alongside his career as a double bassist, Jean-Baptiste is also an electric bassist, composer and artistic producer. His eclectic tastes (ranging from classical music to electro, including rock and jazz) have led him to play in different groups with which he has made numerous concerts and several CDs. Currently he performs regularly with Kolman Skupp (live electro video) and Some Strings (David Bowie tribute group composed of eclectics musicians from classicals orchestras).

These experiences in pop culture inspired him to create original arrangements for double bass that he records for his Youtube channel. Since 2019 he has also offered this repertoire during concerts for solo double bass assisted by a computer. This allows him to manage loops, effects etc ...

He plays an intrument by Charles Jacquot (1870), and a Jérôme Chuilon bow (2023)

Since August 2020 he is the new director of the international double bass summer camp in Perpignan.
